It is time again to register your little ones for preschool. I am so excited to be teaching again. I have a lot of fun, hands-on activities I want to incorporate throughout the school year. As many of you already know I only register four-year-olds. Your child must be four by September 1st, 2012. Register as soon as you can, because my class will fill up quickly. I like to keep a small class size of about ten, so I can make sure the children get the one-on-one attention they need.
Our schedule for this upcoming year will be 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) from 9:00 – 11:00. Our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 6th. We will only be in school two days that week because of Labor Day. The tuition will be $60 per month, which will need to be paid by the end of the first week each month. This will include supplies and snacks for the children each day.
Throughout the year we will work through the alphabet learning letter names and sounds. We will also experiment with our hand writing abilities! We will focus on the numbers 1 – 10 and master our colors. Each month will be a different theme. For example we will start out in September with All About Me. This is one of my favorite themes. We will recognize the children’s strengths and talents. We will learn about the similarities and differences of the children. It is a fun month to get the children excited about themselves and about the other children in our class. Other themes include: All About the Farm and Different Occupations. If anyone has any other ideas or insights they would like to share, please comment and let me know. We also will have at least one field trip each month coinciding with our monthly theme. I will need parent helpers on these days.
I am excited about using this blog for our preschool class this year. I am just learning, but I think it will help keep everyone informed about what we are doing or have been doing. It will also give you as parents the opportunity to communicate with me often. I am excited to receive your comments and any ideas you have to make ABC Fun better. I also believe it will be an enjoyable opportunity for your child to share with you the things he or she is doing in class. With your help, they may also comment on their favorite parts of the day!
Finally, I have many parents ask me, “What is the best thing I can do for my child to prepare them for school and to succeed in school.” My number one answer is to read to your child. Read, Read, Read!!! There are many benefits from reading with your child. At an early age children will understand how to use a book and how to sit for a little longer each time. They will gain an understanding of sounds and words. Their vocabulary will increase significantly and you will develop a closer relationship with your child. The best thing you can do for your child is as easy as reading to them each day.
Please comment often. I am excited to work with not only your child, but you as a parent.
Thanks, Jessie Boone
